The jurisdiction was organized on October 7, 1983 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Jurisdictional and Auxiliary Bishops

The jurisdiction has been served by four (4) Jurisdictional Bishops. We have been served by two (2) Auxiliary Bishops.

Bishop Albert Vernon Jordan has served longer than all of the previous Prelates for Mississippi Southern Second. He has served for more than 27 years.

PROFILE OF A SERVANT

Bishop Albert Vernon Jordan, born in Tylertown, Mississippi on June 14, 1934 to the Late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jordan, was designated Jurisdictional Bishop of the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southern Mississippi on September 18, 1992. He currently serves as the pastor of Jordan Temple Church of God in Christ and Levi Temple Church of God in Christ in Magnolia, Mississippi.

MINISTRY HISTORY

Bishop Jordan joined the church in 1954 and was called to preach in 1956. During the past fifty-four years, Bishop Jordan has rendered service to God, humanity, the Church of God in Christ in Southern Mississippi, and the body of Christ throughout the United States. Since the beginning of his ministry, Bishop Jordan has served in different capacities in the Church of God in Christ:

  • Finance Committee Chairman of Southern Mississippi Jurisdiction, 1971-1972
  • State Evangelist of Southern Mississippi Jurisdiction, 1972-1979
  • Assistant Superintendent of District #4 in Southern Mississippi Jurisdiction under Superintendent W. M. Levi, 1972-1976
  • Second Administrative Assistant to Bishop Elson McDowell in Mississippi Southern Second Jurisdiction, 1985-1987
  • Chairman of the Jurisdictional Council of Pastors and Elders with Bishop Elson McDowell in Mississippi Southern Second Jurisdiction, 1985-1987
  • Second Administrative Assistant to Bishop Robert Nance in Mississippi Southern Second Jurisdiction, 1987-1990
  • First Administrative Assistant to Bishop Robert Nance in Mississippi Southern Second, 1991-1992
  • Jurisdictional Bishop of the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southern Mississippi in the Church of God in Christ, 1992-present

PASTORAL HISTORY

Bishop Jordan has pastored the Jordan Temple Church of God in Christ for forty-two years and the Levi Temple Church of God in Christ for twenty-five years, having built new churches at both locations. He also pastored the Saint Hill Church of God in Christ in Brandon, Mississippi; the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Foxworth, Mississippi; and the Mars Hill Church of God in Christ in Pricedale, Mississippi. Bishop Jordan is a member of the Ministerial Alliance of McComb where he is involved in many community activities and is looked upon as one of the most prominent leaders of his city.

EDUCATION

Bishop Jordan attended school at the Rocky Hill School, Tylertown, Mississippi. He later studied at the Charles Harrison Mason System of Bible Colleges of Memphis, Tennessee, yielding a certificate in Pastoral Theology in 1978.

FAMILY

For almost fifty years, he was married to the former Lillian Hart. They became the cherished parents of ten children, seven of whom are sons: Albert Jordan, Clarence Jordan, and Nelson Jordan, Elder Floyd Jordan; Randy Jordan, and Koreen Jordan of McComb, Mississippi and John Jordan who resides in Summit, Mississippi. Three daughters were born to the union: Diane Williams and Annie Carter of McComb, Mississippi and Lillie Shields of Summit, Mississippi. The Jordans have thirty-four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

After the homegoing of his beloved Mother Lillian Jordan in 2003, Bishop Albert Vernon Jordan was again united in holy matrimony. Bishop Albert V. Jordan and his wife, Mrs. Delores Jordan, reside in McComb, Mississippi.

MINISTRY TODAY

After many years of conducting over 500 revival services, Bishop continues to serve the saints of Mississippi Southern Second Church of God in Christ. He is yet conducting revivals and crusades, as well as serving the members of Jordan Temple Church of God in Christ and Levi Temple Church of God in Christ.
